The Second Show & Sale of 6386 Gimmer Lambs comprising 5885 Mules, 25 Masham’s, 214 Cheviot Mules, 25 Herdwick Mules, 52 Suffolk’s, 100 Continental & other Gimmer Lambs & 85 Shearlings & Ewes.

The Second Annual Show and Sale of Mule, Cheviot Mule and Continental Gimmer Lambs was a great success, with trade far stronger than anticipated and a strong presence of travelling buyers.
Mule Gimmer Lambs, comprising an entry of mainly running lambs, sold to an overall market average of £137.62. The first prize rosette was awarded to the Hallam family of Horton-in-Ribblesdale, whose pen realised £240, purchased by judge Nick Page. Top-quality pens regularly sold in excess of £200, peaking at £250 from A Lodge of Malham Moor, with others from the same vendor selling to £215. Dark-faced tupping lambs regularly sold beyond £150, while running lambs looked well sold, supported by plenty of interest from travelled buyers.
Cheviot Mules proved to be the trade of the day, with an impressive overall average of £177.31. The first prize rosette was awarded to KD & L Armer of Newbiggin-on-Lune selling to £198. Leading the way at £228 was DA & MA Brown & Son of Leyburn, who also sold pens to £225 and £210. Demand was particularly strong for tupping lambs, with many pens selling between £190 and £200.
Masham lambs peaked at £205 from Bainbridge Bros of Marrick, while Herdwick Mules sold to £160 and £140 from JM & AM Morland of Kaber.
A small entry of gimmer shearlings was also forward. Suffolk shearlings sold to £260 from Jess Labbate of Garsdale, while Mule Shearlings topped at £200 from Gordon & Paul Middleton of Garsdale, with others to £195. Cheviot Mule Shearlings sold to £200 from D Pearson & Son of Buckden.
