Show & Sale of Spring Lambs 2025

Tuesday 10th June 2025

Forward: 6 Calves and 549 Sheep comprising 180 Spring Lambs, 241 Prime Hoggs and 128 Cast Ewes and Rams.

SPRING LAMBS

The summer show and sale of prime lambs enjoyed a far better trade then expected with a busy ring of buyers ensuring all types of lambs keenly bid for. The overall market average was 345p/kg very much in line with other market centres especially with a good number of hill bred lambs already coming forward early in the season.

A highlight of the day was the early summer show and sale of prime lambs kindly sponsored by Horner Shearing equipment. The judging was in the capable hands of Martin Hare of Lane End Farm Shop who we thank for his time and expertise. Some great pens of lambs put forward for the judge to cast his eye over saw the championship rosette awarded to a cracking pair of Beltex x lambs from BC Gregg of Angram Livestock which created eager bidding selling to £270 or 587p/kg with the judge backing his judge and purchasing the winners! A successful day saw them collect second prize Suffolk lambs selling to £218 at 52kg purchased by Mr D Morland of Westmorland Ltd. A great consignment of lambs from JR & LA Capstick, Killington saw them awarded reserve champion rosette with the first prize pen of Suffolk lambs selling for £196 at 45kg purchased by Mr D Morland of Westmorland Ltd with this consignment also awarded the second prize pen of continental lambs selling to £192 at 46kg.

More lambs easily could have been sold to the vendors advantage with more needed each week as buyers left today short in supply. There were more hill lambs forward selling cheviots to £156 at 47kg from Springhill partnership. Mule lambs topped at £149 at 50kg from DJ Amsden, Hawes. A number of horned spring lambs forward saw Rough Fells at 37kg selling to £113 from E & K Bland and Swaledales at 34kg selling to £99 J Sunter and Son, Simonstone.
