GREAT ANNUAL TWO-DAY SHOW & SALE OF NEMSA MULE GIMMER LAMBS
Hawes Auction were proud to host the Great Annual Two-Day Show and Sale of NEMSA Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of the Hawes NEMSA Branch on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th September.
A fantastic two days at Hawes Auction, showcasing tremendous quality from start to finish, with an overall average of £209.01 and strong demand for Mule Gimmer Lambs of all types and budgets.
The quality of sheep on offer throughout the two days was amongst the best seen at Hawes for many years. Great credit must go to our vendors, whose hard work and dedication in producing such a tremendous run of Mule Gimmer Lambs was evident throughout both days.
The sale once again demonstrated the strength and versatility of the Mule Gimmer Lamb, with sheep to suit every buyer, every system and every budget. From powerful, strong tupping lambs through to smart, well-bred running lambs, there was an excellent selection of sheep forward to suit the requirements of buyers from across the country.
Trade remained strong and competitive throughout, with prices from £135 upwards and a superb overall two-day average of £209.01.
Monday saw an average of £209.03, with Tuesday following closely at £208.99, demonstrating the consistency of the trade across both days and the continued demand for quality Mule Gimmer Lambs at Hawes.
The show classes were strongly supported, with some tremendous runs of lambs brought forward for the judges to assess.
On Monday, the show was kindly judged by Mr T Fox, Biggar, and Mr M Carter, Gloucester, with the Championship and Best in Hawes Branch awarded to E Fairburn & Sons, Thornton Steward, selling to £820. Second place went to NC Marston, Cockermouth, at £670, third to JA & R Caton, Malham Moor, at £420, fourth to WA & GR Sedgley, Barbon, at £410, fifth to JC Walker & Son, Dunsop Bridge, at £510, and sixth to C & R Metcalfe, Barningham, at £490.
The Best Run of 100 or More Mule Gimmer Lambs, kindly judged by Mr Colin Dent, Kirkby Stephen, saw the trophy kindly donated by the Busby Family awarded to JA & R Caton, Malham Moor.
On Tuesday, the show was kindly judged by Mr J Nunneley, Banbury, and Mr D Morris, Aylesbury, with the Championship and Best in Hawes Branch awarded to HW & G White, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, selling to £550. Second place went to G & HR Shields, Ravenstonedale, at £560, third to F Brown, Halton Gill, at £345, fourth to AC & K Pye, Abbeystead, at £320, fifth to WC Porter & Son, Reeth, at £480, and sixth to JC & N Throup, Skipton, at £300.
The Best Run of 100 or More Mule Gimmer Lambs, kindly judged by Mr Vivian Smith, Alston, saw the trophy kindly donated by the Brown Family awarded to WC Porter & Son, Reeth.
Hawes Auction would like to place on record our sincere thanks to every vendor who supported the sale and worked so hard to present such an outstanding entry of Mule Gimmer Lambs. The quality forward was a real credit to the breeders and producers, and the continued support of our vendors is greatly appreciated.
A huge thank you must also go to the buyers, both local and those travelling considerable distances, for their continued confidence in purchasing Mule Gimmer Lambs at Hawes. The strong and consistent trade across both days is testament to the reputation of the Hawes Mule Gimmer Lamb Sale and the quality of sheep being produced by our vendors.
The final consignment of the day on Tuesday came from James and Joyce Sunter of Downholme Manor, who were selling their Mule Gimmer Lambs at Hawes for the final time before their well-deserved retirement. Their consignment sold to a top of £280, providing a fitting finish to many years of bringing their quality Mule Gimmer Lambs to Hawes.
