Hoghton View Herefords 10th Anniversary Sale – A Landmark Success
The 10th Anniversary Production Sale of Hoghton View Herefords proved to be a resounding success, drawing breeders from across England, Scotland, and Wales to the picturesque Lancashire farm. Hosted on-site and conducted by Hawes Auction Mart, the sale showcased a decade of top-tier breeding — and buyers responded with enthusiasm and competitive bidding throughout.
The sale opened with a strong showing of cows and calves, setting the tone early. Leading the section was Hoghton View Chaela 1st with her heifer calf by Hoghton View Jackaroo, Chaela 3rd, selling for an outstanding 7200gns. Close behind was Whitehill 1 Annie, achieving 7000gns alongside her embryo bull by Auckvale 1 Walktall Hoghton View New York. Another standout, Hoghton View New Dawn 1st with her calf New Dawn 3rd, sired by the eye-catching new stock bull Rempstone Alcatraz, reached 6800gns. The cow and calf section averaged a tremendous £6,468 — a testament to the consistency and quality on offer.
However, it was the 2024 crop of heifers that truly stole the show. These stylish, well-grown young females exemplified the best of Hoghton View genetics, combining performance with presence. The ring erupted with bids as Hoghton View Alice 3rd, a daughter of Auckvale Walktall, entered first and topped the sale at a remarkable 7500gns. She was closely followed by the powerful Hoghton View Lilie 7th, bringing 6700gns, and the striking Ms Unique 4th, another Jackaroo daughter, who sold for 6000gns. This elite group of heifers averaged an impressive £4,788, with interest from both established and emerging breeders.
The sole bull entry, Hoghton View Aftershock, didn’t disappoint either. Sired by Hoghton View Endure and out of the great Alfreda cow family. Widely regarded as one of the best bulls bred at Hoghton View to date, he caught the eye of many and eventually sold for 6600gns, underlining his future potential.
Demand remained strong into the frozen genetics offering. Embryos peaked twice at 600gns — for Moorside New Dawn x Auckvale Walktall and Shraden Alice x Auckvale Walktall — with the full embryo section averaging £521. Semen from the herd’s latest stock bull, Rempstone Alcatraz, sparked a bidding frenzy online, reaching 150gns per straw on two occasions.
Hawes Auction Mart would like to extend sincere thanks to Steven, Lizzie, Stanley, Martha and Edith Walker, and Stephen and Susan Coar, along with the entire Hoghton View team, for their trust and hospitality. Gratitude also goes to Jonny Dymond and the team at Halls, Shrewsbury, for their expert handling of the online bidding platform, which helped attract a nationwide audience.
The Hoghton View 10th Anniversary Sale will be remembered not just for its strong trade, but for the atmosphere, hospitality, and the clear confidence in the future of this outstanding herd.
